Think Tank: the likelihood of a Taiwan Act?
Shirley | July 28, 2010Taiwan and China relations have been warming up, especially in these last two years or so since Taiwan’s President Ma Ying-jeou took office. Recently, media reports said that China is planning on drafting a so called Taiwan Act. The reports said that maybe China is preparing for some kind of political talk with Taiwan. This is after a landmark trade pact named the Economic Cooperative Framework Agreement (ECFA) between the two sides was signed in late June 2010. Former foreign minister of Taiwan and former representative to the United States Mr. C.J. Chen talks about his views of the feasibility of the Taiwan Act and what it means to Taiwan and China.
